Once upon a time: the KämppisFinder origin story

Three perfectly ordinary folks, one idea and many sleepless nights.

Eeli
Hooked on trail running, Eeli spends free time bounding over hill and dale.

Kämppis-Chief

Eeli

One summer evening, Eeli was pondering a solution to students' tightening finances caused by changes to student aid. Shared living brings clear savings, Eeli figured – but how could it be made more enjoyable? Roommates were often found by pure chance, and hunting for one across various websites is a chore. Eeli's brain was steaming as forums and notice boards spun through it. An app for finding a roommate or a shared apartment didn't exist – yet.

Eeli's strength lies in vision and ideas, but IT skills – not so much. YouTube tutorials and AI didn't make the app real in Eeli's hands. Luckily, the friend group included someone for whom IT was everyday business.

Samu
To balance out late-night coding sessions, Samu recharges in the terrace sun.

IT wizard

Samu

On another, slightly later summer evening, Samu's phone chimed with a message: “can you hop on dc?”. On the call, Eeli shared the idea and the need for a coder. Samu got straight to work – months passed, and after countless late nights KämppisFinder became a real, downloadable app.

Whatever the IT problem, Samu tackles it with calm determination and wisdom. Ideas turn into reality in Samu's code. Now the team had both a visionary and a builder. Next, the duo racked their brains over how to get KämppisFinder in front of people. Social media is today's marketing channel, but both of their accounts had only family members as followers, and the latest posts were from 2017. The team still needed someone who didn't mind hanging out on their phone.

Amanda
Regularly struck by knitting fever, Amanda spends a good chunk of free time on the couch.

Content Queen

Amanda

Amanda was lying on a massage table in the late-autumn dusk when the phone went ping – and at this point of the story you can probably guess who the sender was. Yes, Eeli, of course. Post-massage relaxation turned into excitement and buzz once Amanda understood what Eeli was talking about. Saying no wasn't an option, and so Amanda became the team's third member. Creativity is both Amanda's strength and curse.

Today KämppisFinder is a real, downloadable app where users search for the roommate and shared home of their dreams. Behind it are three perfectly ordinary folks, each with a strength of their own.
